Who we are
We are a team of dedicated abortion care experts. Led by Julie Burkhart, the Wellspring Corps comes with more than four decades of experience in political and policy operations, abortion access, and advocacy. Wellspring Health Access, founded in 2021, delivers quality reproductive health care to patients in abortion deserts. Everyone deserves bodily autonomy regardless of circumstances.
We provide health care services such as medication and procedural abortion, gynecological care, vasectomies, family planning and gender affirming care from our clinic in Casper, Wyoming. We serve patients living in abortion deserts—areas with little to no abortion access—within Wyoming and surrounding states. Our clinic is strategically located so that people in areas with limited abortion access, including Idaho, Utah, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Montana can access care.
Prior to the Wellspring Clinic opening in 2023, the only means to end a pregnancy in Wyoming was via medication abortion until 10 weeks of pregnancy. This is before many women realize they are pregnant, leaving Wyoming patients with limited options.
Honors & Recognition
Julie Burkhart’s leadership and commitment to advancing reproductive rights have received recognition on a national stage. In 2025, she was honored by TIME magazine in two prestigious categories:

Julie Burkhart has been fighting for decades to provide abortions in some of the most rural and conservative areas of the U.S. After Wyoming banned abortion in 2022, she joined other advocates to challenge the ban, and opened Wellspring Health Access, the state’s only full-service abortion clinic.

In May 2022, about a month before Julie Burkhart and her team planned to open Wyoming’s only full-service abortion clinic, an arsonist set fire to the building. But that didn’t stop Burkhart, who has run abortion clinics in several states for years. She and other advocates challenged the state’s near-total abortion ban.
